This sport is steeped in tradition. Much of the pleasure from foxhunting is being well groomed and mounted on a well-turned-out horse. Your horse should always be clean, with a tidy mane. Braiding is only required for holidays and special occasions. Saddle pads should be white or black with no embellishments. Shaped saddle pads are preferred. All riders must always have an approved helmet in black or dark blue velvet. Brown velvet helmets can be worn on rat catcher days. Longer hair should be in a hairnet. Whenever wearing a stock tie, it should be adorned with one plain gold stock pin.

Attire for early fox hunting season, or hunting up until October 1st:
Riding britches in tan, rust, or brown. Soft-colored polo shirts, turtlenecks, or a button-down shirt with a stock or tie. No one but staff or masters should wear red. Please avoid bright or fluorescent colors.
After October 1, but before opening meet, the proper attire is rat catcher. This includes riding britches in tan, rust, or brown, a hacking jacket with a riding shirt and stock tie, a turtleneck, or a button-down shirt with a stock tie or tie. The shirts and stock ties may be any soft color that accents your hacking jacket. You are also welcome to wear a vest under your hacking jacket on chillier days if you prefer. All riders should wear black or brown boots. String-backed gloves, or black or brown gloves, are permitted if needed.
The regular hunt season begins after the opening meet. In the regular hunt season, Wednesdays require proper rat catcher attire. Saturdays/Sundays bye-days and holidays require formal hunting attire. Formal hunting attire consists of tan or canary britches with a black or dark blue hunting jacket. Members that have earned their colors may wear a black or dark blue jacket with colonial blue and buff piping on the collar. Male members who have earned their colors may wear their scarlet coats with white britches. All members should wear a white riding shirt with a white stock tie. The vest should be canary and is mandatory for all holidays and special occasions. Boots should be formal, without laces, and they must be black. Men with colors may wear black boots with brown tops. Women with colors may wear black boots with patent leather tops. String-backed gloves, canary gloves, or black/brown leather gloves are permitted.
