MEET THE HOUNDS

Potomac Hunt has traditionally hunted American Foxhounds. Recently, as development encroached upon our hunting territories and our fixtures became smaller and more condensed, we added other hound breeds to our pack. The different breeds hunt the land slightly differently; some being better suited for tight forested spaces while others are much better at covering open fields quickly. Potomac Hunt foxhounds’ lineage can be traced all the way back to hounds aboard the Titanic.

Our hounds are kept on site in specially designed kennels with caring staff. Like other athletes, they are given consistent training and exercise. The Huntsman helps them develop a rapport so that they work as a team, or an efficient pack. As the hounds get older and too tired to hunt, they are retired to hound retirement, kennels or adopted as pets.

Huntsman Steve Currey sees to the proper care of all of our hounds with help from members, kennel staff and vets. Members are also encouraged to learn to show the hounds in local Hounds Shows. Our hounds have been recognized in many hound shows throughout the northeast. Each year when we get puppies, we hold an auction where members of the public can bid to name our new pack members. We also have opportunities where members of the public can come meet our hounds. Stay tuned to this website for your opportunity to take part.
